Celebrating Black History Month

Overview: MGM National Harbor stands as a beacon of excellence in the hospitality and gaming industry and is recognized as the highest-grossing casino and resort in the United States outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Amidst its towering success, however, lies a profound commitment to corporate social responsibility that often goes unnoticed by the broader public.

Given that the company attributes much of its success to its groundbreaking initiatives in sustainability, supplier diversity, workforce development, and community engagement, I set out on a collaborative journey alongside MGM National Harbor’s Public Relations Specialist to produce a video series, which highlights the company’s unwavering dedication to its employees, suppliers and local community.

One of the inaugural endeavors within this series was to spotlight the company’s commitment to its diverse workforce, by interviewing a series of the company’s Black employees regarding their experiences during Black History Month. From heartfelt testimonials to behind-the-scenes glimpses of employee-led initiatives, each episode served as a testament to MGM National Harbor's commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace culture.

Individual Interviews

A series of individual interviews were published across LinkedIn, featuring select employees as they discussed what their African American heritage means to them. An example of one of these interviews can be found below.

Extended Video

Each of the individual interviews were compiled into a single extended video, which was featured during an NBC Heritage event held at MGM National Harbor for over 1,000 Black professionals. This video was also featured on digital displays around property, as well as on LinkedIn, where the video received over 250 reactions and 35 comments of praise, making it the most popular LinkedIn post in the company’s history on the platform. My role in this video’s pre-production phase was to write the interview questions, as well as the introductory and closing statements delivered by the video’s featured host. My role in the post production phase was to work with the company’s Public Relations Specialist, as well as an external editor, to select the footage that would be featured in the video.
